Yes It Is a Pink Cell Phone

So, who was it that said cell phones are serious technology and should be packaged to look like it. That means a sleek black or silver finish. A cream color may also be acceptable. Who said that? I have no idea.

Anyway, forget it. The age of the pink cell phone is upon us. Now wireless devices can be fashion statements as well as technology to impress. A perfect example is the Sanyo SCP-200 Pink. It's not just pink. It's screaming pink. Well, actually it's a tasteful pink.

The SCP-200 has what you need for everyday communicating with family, friends and business associates. It is built on a small clamshell design roughly the size of a standard business card and weighs in at just 3.57 ounces. Even in this diminutive easy to tote package, you'll be able to talk up to 195 minutes or over 3 hours. You can keep it in the standby mode for up to 312 hours or 13 days. That should give you ample time to put the large multi-entry phonebook to good use. You can have up to 300 entries with 7 entries per name.

If you're a pink person, part of the joy of a cell phone like this is showing it off. Even so, there are times when you don't want to hold a phone to your ear. For those times there is a built-in speaker phone. Speakerphones are great when you are otherwise engaged or want to include a group on your side of the conversation.

There are other surprises, too. No pen and paper handy? Make a voice memo instead. Not possible to talk at all? Send and receive SMS text messages.

The main display of the Sanyo SCP-200 is rich in color and a good size, 128 x 128 pixels. It can show 65,000 colors for a vivid display. This is perfect for showing the onboard calculator, calendar and to-do list.

For work or play, the SCP-200 Pink is the perfect blend of fashion and functionality. Best of all, you don't have to pay a premium to have this distinctive cell phone. It's free when you order it with service through our online cellular store. Not only that, you'll also get a mail-in rebate worth $75 cash back. As it turns out, pink pays!

Want a great deal on a cell phone but prefer a color other than pink? Get yours in red, blue, green or even one of those slick RAZR phones in basic black. We have them all at Cell Phone Plans Finder.

Recycle That Old Cell Phone For Cash

Now that you've got that stylish new cell phone you've been hinting about for Christmas, what do you plan to do with your old one? If you're like most of us, it's likely going to wind up in a drawer or down in the basement. Hopefully you won't just pitch it in the trash. Landfills full of cellular phones are an environmental disaster just waiting to happen. Why not do the right thing and recycle your old cell phone? Would you be more motivated if I waived cash in front of you?

Ah, there's the motivator we all respond to. Cool cash. It's the stuff that yard sales are made of. Except that it's hard to sell your cell phones at yard sales. Most people know that the carriers want no part of used phones. Walk into an electronics retailer or wireless store with a phone that no longer has service and they'll politely point you to their display of new models. Then comes the real shocker. You can probably get a new cell phone free with your service order, especially if you buy online. Kinda takes the savings out of buying somebody's used model, doesn't it? Even if you love the retro styling of one of those old DynaTAC phones that look like WWII walkie-talkies, you'll get laughed out of the cellular kiosk at the mall if you try to get them to activate it.

They way you get cash for your cell phone is to sell it to a recycler who's got the infrastructure to test, refurbish and reprogram it for reuse. Your local retailers and the carrier's stores aren't in this business. It's a specialized operation with the equipment and know-how to make old phones usable.

What becomes of old cell phones? The newer models can be programmed to work in developing countries that have a wireless transmission infrastructure but where the cost of new phones may be more than people can afford. This gives the economically disadvantaged a means of communications, especially where phone lines have never been and probably won't be installed. Other phones can be put into service as emergency phones used to call 911 but not for general use. Charities in the U.S. have an interest in these for people who can't afford a cellular service contract or even prepaid wireless service.

Cell phones that are more than a few years old may not have a current economic value, but they do pose an environmental risk. Those electronic parts, circuit boards and solder that make them work contain toxins such as lead and cadmium, plastics that can persist in the environment indefinitely, and even precious metals such as gold plating. The EPA estimates that over 165 million cell phones will be discarded every year. That's 65,000 tons of waste that really doesn't belong in a landfill. The EPA has an interesting brochure on this that you can read online and share with your kids. It's called "The Life Cycle of a Cell Phone."

An don't think you are making a difference by squirreling away that old cell phone in the garage, attic or basement. Someday, you or someone else is going to dispose of your old phone cache. They're likely to dump them in a plastic bag and set them out by the curb. Better that you take the initiative now that you know there are places you can have the old junkers recycled for their materials and the newer phones traded for cash before they go obsolete.

Want to see what your recently retired cell phone is worth? It may be just a few dollars or it might be as much as $100 for the fancier high technology models. See how much you can sell your old cell phone for right now. With this company you won't even have to pay shipping. They'll send you a box. You put your phone in it and drop it in the mail. If it's worth money, you'll get a check. Even if it isn't, you have the satisfaction of knowing that it is being recycled responsibly.

Oh, you didn't get the new cell phone you really wanted? No problem. Check out the free and discounted cell phones at Cell Phone Plans Finder.

Nokia 3220 Gaming Phone

Who wants a boring cell phone when you can have one that's specifically designed for fun? The Nokia 3220 video phone is small enough to put in a pocket or purse and take anywhere. It also works great as a cellular phone with Cingular Wireless service. What makes this phone different is the fun features.

Let's start with the games. You get four hot titles preloaded and ready to play, plus you can download more Java-based games. Unlike most phones, the 3220 gives you gaming feedback. The phone vibrates and lights up as you play. This physical feedback, something like the force feedback joysticks, is also called haptics. It helps to make game play feel more realistic.

Feel like making a short movie today? No, you don't need a separate camcorder. The VGA quality digital camera in the Nokia 3220 can capture video clips up to 3 minutes each. The camera also takes great still photos and has a built-in imaging editor. Send and receive picture or video messages with voice clips to amuse your friends.

Customizing your 3220 is also a treat. It has changeable Xpress-on covers so you can change the look of the faceplate as you wish. Graphics and themes are customizable.

Go hands-free with the Nokia 3220. You have hands free dialing and voice driven menus. Or, turn on the speakerphone and let everyone in on the conversation. If you need to make a note, forget old fashioned pencil and paper. Use the voice memo feature of the phone.

Love the idea of great cell phone discounts but want a completely different model phone or perhaps service from another carrier? We have lots of great deals available right now at Cell Phone Plans Finder.

Cell Phone Film Festival

Attention citizen journalists and budding filmmakers. Your cell phone movies are wanted for the Cellflix Festival for cellular short films. There's a prize, too. Not one of those metal statues to hold down your scripts so they don't blow out the window. This is cash money. Five grand. Yes, you could win $5,000 for goofing around with the video feature of your cell phone. Well, maybe you'll have to put a little creative effort into it.

What I'm talking about is the annual competition "dedicated to the development of creative content for mobile delivery." This is the lofty mission of Ithaca College in hosting their CellFlix Festival. It may not be Sundance. It may not be the Academy Awards. But for crying out loud, it's five large for a 30 second cell phone movie. And they laughed when you told them you could use your cell phone as a camcorder. Let's see how much they laugh when you flash that $5,000 grand prize money.

There are a few entry requirements. First, this is for student filmmakers. No professionals need apply. Sorry, Robert Redford. You're out. You, too, Michael Moore. You have to be a legal U.S. resident enrolled as a full time student in an accredited high school or college and between the ages of 13 and 22. George Lucas...out. Francis Ford Coppola...definitely out. Alfred Hitchcock? Don't worry about him. He's dead. So, with all the big guys disqualified how much competition can there really be?

Well, there might be considerable competition. Cell phones are ubiquitous on campus and many have digital cameras capable of shooting short clips. You know those nerdy kids that keep cracking each other up sending video clips back and forth? They've got their entries in already. You better hurry. You've only got till 8 AM EDT on January 10 to get yours uploaded for consideration.

Here are a few more rules. You must shoot your film using a cell phone or smartphone, but you can do the editing on a computer if you prefer. Any genre is acceptable. You can submit a documentary, drama, comedy, action movie or experimental film. Your time limit is 30 seconds and must include both sound and video.

Today, your cousin's cell phone screen. Tomorrow, the big screen. It could happen.

Oh, need a cell phone with video capability quickly? Choose from the many phones and service providers we have available with excellent special offers at Cell Phone Plans Finder.

Text Messaging and Driving - A Deadly Combination

A mobile phone is a great convenience and nearly a necessity for today's busy lifestyle. It can also provide safety and security, allowing you to call for help in an emergency. But there are times when it should be turned off and safely put away.

Please don't use your cellphone while driving. Let your voicemail pick up any calls and take a message. Likewise, if you need to place a call, such as to report a dangerous situation on the road, pull over and stop first, or have your passenger use the phone. Talking on your phone while driving takes your attention off the road. Part of your mind is preoccupied by what you are talking about, plus the other person doesn't know when you need your full concentration to react to conditions.

The most foolish thing you can do with a cell phone while driving is to play a game or use text messaging. Talking just takes your mind off the road. Texting takes your mind and eyes off the road and your hand off the wheel! At that point, you are just a passenger who expects your car to drive itself, which it cannot do.

When you play video games on your computer, PSP or whatever, I'll bet you give it your full concentration. You don't try to do your homework, watch TV or carry on much of a conversation while playing, do you? You probably won't even look up when someone tries to talk to you.

Well, driving is at least as demanding as today's video games. If you get distracted during a game, you can lose points or your avatar may die. You may think it's a disaster, but you can just reset, start a new game and be back to normal. Real life isn't so simple. If your attention is diverted while steering more than a ton of steel down the road, you could kill yourself, your passenger or a totally innocent stranger. A second or two of inattentiveness can change your life forever. One stupid moment of driving distracted can leave you crippled for life, or your future will be effectively ended because you'll be spending it in the penitentiary. Even if you escape injury and aren't sent to prison, you will still have to live with the knowledge of the damage you have caused and the lives you've changed.

Driving is a privilege. Take it seriously. Leaving the cell phone off while driving will get you many more years of happy talking and texting. And isn't that what we all want?

Talk To Santa By Video Phone

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus and he's as overworked as today's technology professionals. Not only does he have to support the legacy communication system of handwritten letters, but he must embrace the latest in VoIP video phones as well. Fortunately that's no problem for the man in red.

Oh, you haven't heard? Santa has been keeping up with the advances in telecommunications. His smiling face and hearty HO, HO, HO appear on Packet8 video phones thanks to 8x8, the company that invented this technology. Each year, kids at children's hospitals around the country have the opportunity to "Video Call Santa at the North Pole." But this year, the program is being opened to new Packet8 VideoPhone subscribers who want to see and chat with Santa at the North Pole. That could be you or someone at your house. Only a limited number of 10 minute slots are available, so be forewarned.

What you need to participate is the fantastic Packet8 Broadband VideoPhone. This is the product that has finally made video telephone service practical. It looks like a desk telephone with a video screen, like the ones you see on portable DVD players, added. That screen also contains a camera so that all video conversations have voice and picture in both directions.

This is no toy, but you'll have more than your share of fun when you move up to video phones. The Packet8 Broadband VideoPhone shows live full-motion video in brilliant color. There's no room full of touchy equipment to set up. You just call any party who has an identical video phone and when they answer you'll be able to see as well as speak to each other. Of course, you can still make regular voice telephone calls to people who are not yet lucky enough to own once of these video phones.

The breakthrough technology comes through using the Internet to carry the video phone calls. Normal telephone circuits just don't have the capacity to carry both voice and pictures. Earlier attempts have resulted in fuzzy and jerky pictures. Not with the Packet8 Broadband VideoPhone. You don't plug it into a phone line. Instead, you connect it to your broadband DSL or cable modem router. It shares your broadband connection with any computers you are using on the Internet.

How much does this cost? Right now you can get a pair of Packet8 Broadband VideoPhones for just $299.99 when you order them with a two-year $19.95 a month service contract per phone. Your videophone service gives you unlimited video and telephone calling to anyone in the 50 United States and Canada, plus Packet8 subscribers worldwide.

Even if all the promotional timeslots for the Santa calls are taken by now, you know where Santa lives, right? No reason at all that he can't be on the VideoPhone at, say, Uncle Bob's house, right? Wink, Wink. You may also enjoy tracking Santa's flight on Christmas Eve at the Official NORAD Tracking site.

After the holidays, you'll find lots more uses for your videophones. They're perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, new members of the family and just staying in touch with the folks far away. Use your imagination. Once you've experienced live video calls, ordinary telephone calls will seem so last century. Maybe even the century before.

Oh, you do have broadband Internet service, right? You'll need it for videophone service. Dial-up just isn't fast enough. Find DSL and Cable broadband service here.

Kids Cell Phone Special Free Offer

Would you love to give your kids a cell phone, but cringe at the thought of having to pay $100 to $150 to get the popular Firefly cell phone for kids? Well, we've got good news for you. The Firefly has just become available for free when you order it with AT&T cellular service through our online cell phone store. This isn't a rebate offer. You can get 1 or 2 cool cell phones for kids at no upfront cost. You can even get your Firefly delivered with free 2-day delivery.

Isn't this just the perfect thing for your pre-teens? Even if they haven't been nagging you for their own cell phone, there are good reasons why you should give them each one... at least for the safety aspect. With a Firefly cell phone, your kids can push just one button to be connected to 911 emergency service. Or, they can push a different button and make a direct call to you. They don't have to remember any numbers because there isn't even a standard dial on this phone. Instead, you program the dedicated buttons and extra numbers in the phone book and then lock the phone. Your little ones can only call and receive calls from the numbers you specify.

This mobile phone is designed to take the abuse kids age 5 to 12 can dish out. It's built into a rugged translucent plastic shell about the same size as a business card. The antenna is hidden inside the case so it can't break off. The rounded shell can't hurt anyone and the backpack clip ensures that they won't accidentally drop it anywhere.

This is really a great cell phone for kids. It's got some fun features such as 7 backlit screen colors, 12 pre-loaded ringtones, 5 animated graphics plus flashing lights. It's fun like a toy, but with the serious communications capability you need to stay in touch when you need to. Unlike walkie-talkie devices, the Firefly is a real cell phone that can call you or the authorities in seconds. You can even treat your kids by programming their friends numbers so they can stay in touch while learning communications skills they'll always need.

You can get an even better deal by selecting a shared minutes plan that includes 2 free Firefly cell phones. Or you can share a plan with your child by getting them the Firefly and selecting a different cell phone model for yourself. There are many other cell phones that are also available free.
